New Zealand Syrah (this variety is also known as Shiraz) is distinguished by its bright, spicy flavours and elegant texture, more akin to the elegant Northern Rhône style than the more overt Australian Shiraz. Crammed with plum and savoury black pepper flavours, and sometimes hints of violets, it is traditionally blended with a touch of Viognier to soften the palate and boost the aromatics.
