Palliser Estate's Chardonnay is a taut, elegant nutty style Kiwi Chardonnay, balanced by creamy stone fruits and exotic passionfruit.
Grapes for this Chardonnay yield from the Om Santi and Palliser vineyards in the Martinborough winegrowing region. Fruit was fully barrel-fermented and aged for 10 months on lees in 17% new French oak to add texture and structure.
Palliser Estate was established in 1989 and was one of the pioneers of this now great wine region. The estate is named after Cape Palliser, the southernmost point of New Zealand’s North Island. Palliser is committed to the environment and was in fact one of the first three wineries in the world to be certified to the International Environmental Standard ISO 14001 (a framework for effective environmental management).
"This Chardonnay is a bit understated at first, offering subtle notes of grilled white peaches. Thankfully, it seems to grow in intensity on the medium-bodied palate, adding notes of toasted grain and ripe pear. There's a soft, gently silky mouthfeel and a bit of mild citrus on the finish." robertparker.com
