Te Kano

Te Kano, which means ‘seed’ in Maori was founded in 2015 when the Lloyd family fell in love with a site in Central Otago. With help from viticulturist Mike Winter and winemaker Dave Sutton, Te Kano produces a small selection of wines from vineyards and barrels, which are often produced in extremely limited quantities.
The estate itself comprises three vineyards include 32-hectare Northburn, 4.6-hectare Jerome and 4.5-hectare Eliza. Both Jerome and Eliza are named after beloved family members and are in Bannockburn. Jerome benefits from sandy soils, giving firm tannins to the Pinot Noir, while Eliza is located opposite Mount Difficulty and is composed of richer soils with some clay, ideal for making plush wines.
