Babich
Babich is one of New Zealand’s finest, longest family-run, wineries with an esteemed history dating back over 100 years, and a reputation for crafting world-class wines using sustainable methods from 13 varietals in two of country’s finest regions: Marlborough in the South Island and Hawke’s Bay in the North. Babich is one of New Zealand’s Top Wineries of 2020, awarded by Kiwi wine critic Bob Campbell MW.
Babich was founded in 1916 by Josip Babich, a hard-working, humble pioneer who, at just 20 years old, was thought crazy for planting vines! Josip’s son, Joe, took over the winemaking and for over 50 years was the driving force behind the estate’s successful innovative approach, winning New Zealand Winemaker of the Year along the way. Today, the estate is run by the third Babich generation who grew up amongst the vines, and continue their forebearer’s ethos, with greater emphasis on sustainability and organic farming.
We think you’ll love Babich’s wines, from their Classic range (everyday sophistication), which punch well above their price and showcase wonderful regional styles, to their premium Black Label, from estate-owned grapes only; great food wines which are richer, with greater depth and beautifully textured. With over a century of winemaking experience in every glass and a plethora of awards, there are plenty of exciting flavours to discover.
“Our winemaking philosophy is to have the right vineyards, in the right regions on superior sites, and getting the right varieties on those superior sites.” Joe Babitch
