Felton Road 's Calvert 2017 is a pure Pinot Noir, which combines power with finesse.

Fruit for the 2018 Calvert comes, funnily enough, from the Calvert Vineyard, located on Felton Road in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. Traditional fermentation with maceration on grape skins extracts wonderful colour, tannin with considerable depth of flavour, before the wine is then aged for 16 months in French oak barrels from artisan Burgundian coopers. In accordance with Felton Road's non-interventionalist approach to winemaking, this wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and not fined or filtered.

Felton Road is situated on warm, north-facing slopes of Bannockburn in Central Otago; a modern gravity fed winery which crafts high quality single varietal wines from 100% estate grown fruit from its three vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically (fully certified by Demeter) under winemaker Blair Walter and English-born owner Nigel Greening. Felton Road employs minimal intervention in the winemaking to allow the unique vineyard characters to shine through. Felton Road has a prestigious worldwide reputation.

"Elegant and slightly restrained pinot noir, with appealing and accessible cherry, floral and spice flavours together with a savoury, nutty edge adding extra complexity. A wine with character and charm." Bob Campbell MW

"Grown in the Calvert Vineyard at Bannockburn - a kilometre east of the winery - matured in French oak barriques (30 per cent new in 2017), and bottled unfined and unfiltered, the 2017 vintage (5*) is deeply coloured, mouthfilling and fruit-packed. Already delicious, it has concentrated, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, a vague hint of herbs, a subtle seasoning of oak, gentle tannins, and lovely texture, complexity and richness.
