Villa Maria's Private Bin Riesling is a delicate, refined style - bright and floral with lemon and lime accents.
Grapes for the Riesling were selected from vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau valleys of Marlborough.
Under owner Sir George Fistonich, Villa Maria has grown from a one-man band to an icon of the New Zealand wine industry over fifty years. George started growing vines at the tender age of 21 and made his first wine back in 1962 under the name Villa Maria, with grapes he harvested from a five acre block he leased from his father in Mangere, Auckland. George, supported by his wife, Gail, continued to make wine himself in the 1960s, before expanding in the 1970s. Today, Villa Maria employs more than 250 permanent staff, grows 28 different grape varieties, and exports wine to over 60 countries worldwide.
Jane Clare (Manchester Evening News) "The wine has a perfumed nose, like a garden just coming into spring bloom. Citrus playfully dances in and around, saying its name is lime, with lemon holding back, quieter, in the background. It brings happy zesty wine joy into your life."
"The 2019 vintage (4*) is enjoyable from the start. Made in a slightly sweet style, it is attractively scented, with strong, crisp, lemony, appley flavours, showing excellent delicacy and length. Great value."Michael Cooper
GOLD MEDAL - New Zealand Aromatic Wine Competition 2018
4 STARS - Michael Cooper
Bright, floral perfumed aromas intertwine with lemon and lime, accentuated by attractive apricot nuances. The palate is light and crisp showing juicy grapefruit and mandarin flavours with a hint of ginger spice. Shows excellent fruit sweetness, subtle mineral notes, well-balanced acidity and a smooth oily textural finish.
