Villa Maria's Private Bin Lighter Sauvignon Blanc is a ripe style, with naturally balanced acidity when the grape sugar levels are lower than usual, therefore creating a full-flavoured wine with naturally lower alcohol.
Grapes are carefully sourced from Marlborough sites that express ripe flavours and fresh acidity at much lower sugar levels than standard wines. The fruit is gently handled in the winery to ensure the wine has fresh aromatics and ripe fruit flavours, without compromisng the palate weight or wine texture and length.
Under owner Sir George Fistonich, Villa Maria has grown from a one-man band to an icon of the New Zealand wine industry. George started growing vines at the tender age of 21 and made his first wine back in 1962 under the name Villa Maria, with grapes he harvested from a five acre block he leased from his father in Mangere, Auckland. George, supported by his wife, Gail, continued to make wine himself in the 1960s, before expanding in the 1970s. Today, Villa Maria employs more than 250 permanent staff, grows 28 different grape varieties, and exports wine to over 60 countries worldwide.
Careful viticultural and winemaking practices have been employed to produce a wine that is naturally lower in alcohol, with no compromise on flavour. This light and vibrant wine has aromas of fresh snow peas, and zesty limes. The juicy palate is balanced with flavours of fresh herbs, grapefruit and white peach.
