Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2018
Wild raspberry, blueberry, cracked pepper and hints of vanilla bean on the nose. Powerful and balanced ripe tannins gives great structure. Oak plays a supporting role, with the wine living on a pure fruit expression. This purity, combined with refreshing natural acidity, means there is excellent potential for ageing, and development of mineral, gamey characters will result from careful cellaring. Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah is Predominantly Syrah with a small addition of Viognier (typically 2% to 3%) from vineyards within the unique Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawkes Bay. Hand-harvested fruit was fermented separately before blending post-fermentation. A range of maceration periods allowed for increased complexity. Typically around 20-25% of whole bunches included in the fermentations. The wine was aged for 14 months in a mixture of new and older French oak litre barriques, plus larger 5000 litre oak ovals. This barrel ageing regime includes barrel stirring of the lees and very minimal racking.

"Typical Syrah notes of violets and black pepper add hints of stone fruit and blueberries on the nose. While on the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a creamy-silky texture that's wrapped up by a long, juicy finish edged with mocha and maple syrup."robertparker.com

"This syrah from one of Hawke’s Bay’s premium producers of the variety is both serious and uplifting. A sprinkle of pepper, still dark fruit, attractive cedary oak, a whisper of florality (there is a 2% viognier presence)...all this comes packaged in a fantastic structure built around broad, round tannins. It has weight, but steps delicately."

Wild raspberry, blueberry on the nose, with hints of cracked pepper and vanilla bean. Powerful and balanced in the mouth, with great structure, integrated oak and pure fruit expression and vibrant acidity keeping everything fresh. Excellent ageing potential with development of mineral, gamey characters to follow.
