Seifried Estate's Pinot Gris is ripe and generous with stone and apple fruit to the fore.
Grapes for this vintage yield from the Brightwater Vineyard in Nelson, just 15km from the coast and benefits from the cool maritime breeze, and Rabbit Island situated on a wide river flat, which marks the sites of Maori kumara beds (sweet potato) prior to European settlement in the early 1800s.
Seifried Estate was established by Hermann Seifried and his New Zealand wife Agnes in the Moutere Valley near Nelson, and the estate has grown to become one of New Zealand’s most sustainable family-owned wineries, with 14 varieties (including Riesling, Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau and Refosco) on just two hectares of land, surrounded by mountains to the east, west and south (Richmond and Western Ranges) and the Tasman Sea to the north, which moderates the temperate climate throughout the year.
