Seifried Estate's Aotea Méthode Traditionelle NV is a wonderful sparkling blend of 50/50 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Fruit for the Aotea NV yields from the estate's Brightwater and Cornfield Vineyards in Nelson and was hand-harvested to ensure quality in the early hours when it is cool. After fermentation the wine was transferred to bottle for the traditional French second fermentation and aged on its lees, where it developed lovely biscuity, toasty notes. This wine was finished in 2016 to celebrate the 40th vintage at Seifried.
Seifried Estate was established by Hermann Seifried and his New Zealand wife Agnes in the Moutere Valley near Nelson, and the estate has grown to become one of New Zealands most sustainable family-owned wineries, with 14 varieties (including Riesling, Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Muller-Thurgau and Refosco) on just two hectares of land, surrounded by mountains to the east, west and south (Richmond and Western Ranges) and the Tasman Sea to the north, which moderates the temperate climate throughout the year.
“Totally charming and attractive bouquet with a fine balance between fruit, yeast autolysis and complexity; aromas of lemon, apple, grapefruit and white peach, warm bready, yeasty feel and decent complexity...” 90 Points - Cameron Douglas MS, March 2017
