Nautilus Clay Hills is a 100% Pinot Noir from the Nautilus Clay Hills Vineyard, located on the ridge that divides the Brancott and Omaka Valleys within the Southern Valleys sub-region of Marlborough. The fruit was hand-picked and chilled overnight before de-stemming to tank incorporating a 50% whole bunch component. After a 7 day cold soak the wine completed a spontaneous fermentation and remained on skins for a total of 14 days before pressing. After 24 hours settling, the wine was racked to 228 L French Oak barriques (33% new) and matured for 11 months before clarification and bottling. Dark ruby in colour and the nose reveals fragrant floral aromas, ripe wild blackberries, plums and spices. The palate is medium bodied with some fruit sweetness and good structure. Refined, balanced and elegant, showing good intensity and a lengthy finish. Back to Nautilus Wine

"The delicious 2016 vintage (5*) is a single-vineyard red, grown in the Southern Valleys and matured in French oak casks (33 per cent new). Deep ruby, it is full-bodied and fleshy, with rich, ripe cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours. Finely textured, it's a very harmonious red, well worth cellaring, but already a lovely mouthful." Michael Cooper

"The 2015 vintage (4.5*) is a single-vineyard red, grown in the Southern Valleys and matured in French oak casks (33 per cent new). Full, bright ruby, with a slightly earthy bouquet, it is mouthfilling, supple and vibrantly fruity, with strong, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, and finely integrated oak adding complexity." Michael Cooper
