Mt Difficulty's Target Riesling from the Target Gully and Long Gully vineyards in Central Otago is a fine medium-style Riesling.
Mt Difficulty was established in the 1990s by a group of four growers that formerly sold their grapes on, and were true pioneers of the Bannockburn subregion, harnessing a difficult but beautiful terrain overlooking the southern Cromwell Basin. Mt Difficulty creates a unique microclimate of low rainfall and humidity, with hot summers and a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns; conditions that bring the best out of the fickle Pinot Noir grape, and perfect also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Today, the estate owns some of the regions oldest vines, producing complex, concentrated fruit under fourth generation winemaker, Matt Dicey.
BLUE-GOLD & TOP 100 - Sydney International Wine Competition 2017.
4.5 STARS (Excellent) - Michael Cooper Buyer's Guide to NZ Wines.
95 POINTS - Bob Campbell MW Wine Reviews, Feb 2016"I love this style of Riesling - wonderfully pure with an exquisite acidity and sweetness tension that is quite thrilling. The wine has a poise and lightness that I really admire. Lots of chalky mineral character."
Aromas of citrus blossom and white florals mingle with succulent peach notes. Lovely linear citrus and peach characters introduce this wine to the palate with poise and balance. Nicely rounded and will richly reward careful cellaring.
