Mt Difficulty's Roaring Meg is an off-dry Pinot Gris with great weight and texture, yielding from carefully selected, hand harvested grapes grown in Central Otago's Cromwell basin. The wine was fermented cool, to help maximise varietal character.
Roaring Meg is the second label of Mt Difficulty, which was launched in 2004, when a bountiful harvest produced an abundance of fruit. Roaring Meg is a fruit-driven, early drinking series of wines that became an instant hit with Mt. Difficulty drinkers and beyond, and has become a staple ever since.
Mt Difficulty was established in the 1990s by a group of four growers that formerly sold their grapes on, and were true pioneers of the Bannockburn subregion, harnessing a difficult but beautiful terrain overlooking the southern Cromwell Basin. Mt Difficulty creates a unique microclimate of low rainfall and humidity, with hot summers and a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns; conditions that bring the best out of the fickle Pinot Noir grape, and perfect also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Today, the estate owns some of the regions oldest vines, producing complex, concentrated fruit under fourth generation winemaker, Matt Dicey.
Delicious ripe aromatics showcasing yellow fleshed stonefruit with complex white floral notes. An introduction of succulent peach and rock melon leads into a full textured mid-palate and a ripe phenolic-driven finish, which nicely balances the off-dry style.
