Dog Point's Pinot Noir is silky, subtle and concentrated with lashings of red fruits.
Dog Point is one of the earliest private vineyards established in the Wairau Valley and has some of the oldest vines, and the estate has six different Pinot Noir clones from vines dating back to 1983. The wine is hand-harvested and aged in (40% new) French oak barrels for 18 months.
Dog Point Vineyard is the largest organic Biogro certified vineyard in New Zealand, with practices including turning winery waste a healthy organic compost and collecting leachate to use as fertiliser to help conserve moisture and improve soil structure, plus the planting of buckwheat between the vines to encourage beneficial insects for biological control of insect pests. Over the winter months, sheep are brought onto the property to control grass and weed growth and assist in adding organic matter to the soil.
"Supple, vibrant, organic pinot noir with cherry, violet, blackcurrant leaf, spice, anise, and subtle nutty oak flavours. High-energy wine with impressive purity. An elegant and youthful pinot noir with obvious cellaring potential. This must be one of Marlborough’s most consistently top reds. And it’s organic." Bob Campbell MW
