Ata Rangi's Crimson Pinot Noir is the estate's second wine - a refined, early-drinking Pinot Noir from younger parcels of vines grown in Ata Rangi's vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace.

Fruit is hand-picked from vines of 5-20 years and the wine is aged for 9 months in (20% new) oak.

Ata rangi was established on a former sheep paddock in 1980 by Clive Paton who bought the land using the proceeds from the sale of his own herd. Today, this great New Zealand wine estate has a worldwide reputation as one of Martinborough’s finest vineyards.

Ata Rangi continues to be owned and run by Clive Paton and his wife Phyll, together with Clive's sister Alison and winemaker Helen Masters. Clive is an avid conservationist, and was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his contribution to both viticulture and conservation in New Zealand. In January 2019, Helen was awarded 2019 New Zealand Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine.

The name Ata Rangi means ‘dawn sky’ or ‘new beginning’ in Maori and is a small New Zealand winery.

Aromatically this wine offers layers of flavours: violets, dark cherry and plum, notes of dark chocolate and tobacco with a faint whiff of gamey notes. Fresh, vibrancy on the palate with smooth tannins pulling the wine through to a long, salivating finish.
