2014 was an outstanding season for Hawke's Bay and this perfumed wine shows intense aromatics of blackcurrant, dried herbs, graphite and cedar notes. A rich and concentrated palate of dark fruit combines with integrated cedar, spice and mocha notes. Elegantly balanced and textured with fine grained tannins; finishes with excellent mineral length. Vidal Legacy is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown entirely in Vidal's Omahu Gravels vineyard, situated in the heart of the premium Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke's Bay. Fruit was destemmed and crushed and the cap hand plunged. Fermentation took place in open top fermenters at temperatures of 30-34C. Spent 31 days on skins with 20 months maturation in 50% new French barriques. Minimal egg white fining and minimal filtration. "The medium-bodied 2014 Legacy Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine, decidedly not a high-octane powerhouse. Cedar and vanilla notes frame cassis and mint, and while this wine is intensely flavored and shows excellent length, it's also restrained and classy from start to finish.
