Te Mata Estate's Coleraine Cabernet Merlot is a classic, and high quality Left Bank Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, made for the long-haul.
Grapes are sourced from separate plots within Te Mata's own Hawke's Bay estate vineyards, and the wine was aged in predominantly new French oak barrels for 17 months to gain complexity and texture.
The family-owned Te Mata Estate was established in the Hawkes Bay region in 1896 and has the oldest winery building in New Zealand, and some of the countrys oldest vineyards in the country. At the heart of Te Mata Estate are the Havelock Hills Vineyards, the first legally-protected vineyards in New Zealand, renowned for producing wines with great balance, power and elegance.
"Deep, bright red colour with a lot of purple in its hue. The bouquet very fresh and aromatic, delightfully bright and cabernet-cassisy. Full-bodied, supple and the tannins are fully ripe and yet structurally excellent. Cedary, too. This is an elegant, tightly packed, refreshing wine with good acidity and fine-grained but persistent tannins. High potential. A stand-out wine."Huon Hooke

"Fragrant as always, hinting at violets, tobacco and cassis, it's also a broad-shouldered vintage, with substantial power and tannin. The oak is beautifully integrated into the wine already, appearing as classy Pauillac-like pencil shavings on the lengthy finish."
Violets, Rosés, lavender and pure cassis on the nose, flowing into a seriously complex palate of blackcurrant, fragrant wild strawberry and black cherry fruit, integrated with sweet cedar, and fine, supple French oak. Concentrated, poised and finishes long.
