100% Sauvignon Blanc from Framingham’s Wairau estate vineyard in Marlborough.
Hand-picked fruit was subjected to several different treatments: 20% was fermented on skins, one parcel was given some skin contact before pressing, and another was whole bunch pressed. No sulphur dioxide was used in the juice; spontaneously fermented, 70% in barrels and puncheons. The overall breakdown is 30% stainless steel, 20% acacia puncheon and 50% older French oak barriques. The wine was on full lees for 10 months and the barrel portion was aged for 10 months.
Winemaker's Comments
This wine represents an atypical style of Sauvignon Blanc for Marlborough, being very textural with tastes of earth and mineral rather than fruit. A strictly limited edition, the F-Series allows head winemaker Andrew Hedley and his team to experiment with winemaking techniques and create small batch wines that capture the essence of each vintage, resulting in some of Marlborough’s most exciting wines.
