Akarua's Pinot Noir from the Cairnmuir and Felton Road vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago.
This premium fine wine region is mountainous, rising to over 2000 metres, and the vines are planted in spectacular alpine scenery. Here, the philosophy is to reflect the special characters of the Bannockburn sub-regions terroirs, and capture the unique qualities of each Pinot vintage so that they are truly reflected in each bottle.
The wine was aged for 10 months in French barriques (30% of which were new) to gain further complexity and structure.
Akarua winery is one of the largest family-owned vineyards in Central Otago; producing 100% estate-grown, award-winning New Zealand wines across two sub-regions under winemaker Andrew Keenleyside. The estate is currently under the second generation of the Skeggs family, who were amongst the first pioneers of the region and secured a premium north-facing Bannockburn vineyard site.
Sustainability is core to the estates ethos, including water conservation and, and Akarua has accredited status as a sustainable producer.
