Vidal Legacy Chardonnay 2016

100% Chardonnay sourced from the cooler vineyard site of Keltern and the warmer Gimblett Gravels site of Lyons in the Hawkes Bay region.

Fruit was whole cluster pressed and naturally fermented in French barriques, 45% new and 55% seasoned. The wine was matured for 12 months on lees and in tank. Underwent partial and natural malolactic fermentation. Gently fined before bottling.

Winemaker's Comments

The 2015 season produced exceptional Chardonnay. A cooler than normal start delayed ripening, allowing the slow accumulation of flavour and retention of natural acidity. It encapsulates concentration and restraint; citrus/grapefruit, roasted nuts and fragrant flinty aromatics combine on a finely styled, textured and seamless palate. Distinctive and age-worthy.
