100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Pinnacles, East Base, Palliser/Clouston vineyards, and a small amount from the Collins vineyards, all located in the Martinborough region.
The quality of the fruit that has gone into Pencarrow has never been better, partly from the continued improvements in viticulture and increasing vine age. Upon harvest the fruit was given a cool soak, then indigenous yeast fermented with approx 5% whole clusters. After time on skins, aged 10 months in 24% new 228 litre casks.
Winemaker's Comments
Lusciously juicy with sweet flavours of dark-red berry and cherry fruit entwined with subtle nuances of dark herbs, unfolding fragrant violet and dark-red florals providing aromatic lift. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannins that provide structure and grip, but enable accessibility, and the acidity is fresh and lacy, lending energy and vitality. Flows to a rich and succulent finish.
