Mahi’s Marlborough Chardonnay is wonderfully balanced – ripe and concentrated, yet elegant and restrained – a lovely cool-climate style from a small parcel of vines.
The key behind Mahi’s Chardonnay’s superb concentration and freshness is the quality of the fruit grown (and handpicked for quality), at the western end of the Wairau Valley in the Twin Valley Vineyard. Here, a complex soil structure and cool climate allow for slow, even ripening and a nice underlying mineral character. The grapes are picked according to optimum ripeness/acidity levels and the wine is aged for 15 months in French barriques to add further complexity and concentration
Winemaker’s Comments
An elegant and finely balanced style Chardonnay. Ripe, concentrated notes of citrus and nectarine fruits flow into the mouth, with barrel-fermented nuttiness and a slightly creamy texture adding weight to a lengthy finish. A classy Marlborough style.
