100% Pinot Noir from Akitu's vineyards located 380 metres above sea level in the premium Central Otago winegrowing region.
Fruit was 40% whole bunch pressed, the balance whole berry, with maturation in 25% new French oak. As the vines enter their second decade their resilience is proven, and the character that only comes with vine age is becoming more defined.
Winemaker's Comments
Spiced cherry primary fruit and dusty dried herb aromas, giving way to dark plum fruit characters with a background of brown spices and leafy complexity. Dark juicy plum drives a generous entry to the palate, and the spiced cherry element adds great focus and length of flavour. Cinnamon and subtle anise characters are woven into the tactile structure. A tannin backbone complements juicy acidity, giving a velvety yet lively texture and a mouthwatering finish.
